Who I am

Stefano Monellini is a spiritual seeker and practices different forms of meditation and prayer, both inspired by traditional and contemporary mysticism. He works as a psycho-social counseler and vocational trainer, as well as social entrepreneur commited to nonprofit activities.

Born in 1966 in Italy, he currently lives and works in Mexico. Stefano has a catholic background, but is a strong supporter of ecumenism, dialogue between different cultures and religions, science and faith.

At the age of 18, he achieves his bachelor in classical and humanistic studies. He loves travelling and different cultures: as a result of this, in 1991, Stefano graduates in tourism (cum laude, thesis entitled “The phenomenology of Christian religious tourism. An interdisciplinary approach) and learns 3 foreign languages (English, French and Spanish). In 1991, after painful personal and family experiences, he begins a personal research that leads him to meet different spiritual experiences.

In 1992 he starts his professional activity as a helping professionist, focusing primarily on social work aimed to children, teen-agers and their families. Meanwhile, he continues his academic studies, achieving, in 1996, a second university degree in human sciences and helping professions (cum laude, thesis entitled “The choice of the profession of social worker. Research on students of the university of Perugia).

In 1996, he moves to France, near Lyon, where he works as a volunteer at the “Communauté de Taizé”, an ecumenical Christian monastic community. He shares the monastic life, praying 3 times a day and working in the welcome activities. In Taizé Stefano knows Martha, his mexican wife, married in 1998. They have 2 children, Esteban (8 years) and David (2 years).

In the same period he starts studying the works of Ken Wilber, the American most translated philosopher and mystic. Through his work Stefano begins to deepen the Integral Thought and Theory. He is interested in the dialogue among human sciences and spirituality: ILP (“Integral Life Practices”)  methodologies become his main counselling activity tools.

Besides his counselling and training activities, from 1997 to 2008, he works in a big Italian nonprofit company, as fund-raiser, project manager, trainer and researcher, as well as writer and congressist.

In June 2009, he moves with his family to Mexico (Ensenada, Baja California Norte), where he works as psycho-social counseler and vocational trainer with different kinds of target.

He is commited to his family and children, to meditation and prayer, and to ILP practice. Stefano practices tennis, swimming, running and weightlifting. Plays keyboards and guitar. He continues travelling in his free time. Family

Hi Stephano —
You have a very interesting biography! My wife was impressed that you volunteered at Taizè. She visited in 2004. Did you know Fr. Roger well?

You mentioned that you like “aphorisms.” My favorite spiritual aphorisms are from the American Transcendental Realizer Franklin Merrell-Wolff [1897-1985]. You can read about him at:
http://www.integralscience.org/gsc/

On that website, please read his “Aphorisms” page (which is extracted from his book “The Philosophy of Consciousness-without-an-Object”):

Dear Michael,
it is an honour to receive a post from you.
Thank you very much, I am so happy you enjoyed my blog.
Yes, you can tell your wife I have been living in Taizè in 1996 and 1997, and I had the opportunity to share many experiences with fr. Roger.
I met my mexican wife there, where both of us were volunteers. We married in 1998. We are a “Taizé couple” like many many others…
I wrote a letter to the community the day after his tragic murder (2005, august, 16): in the letter I tried to express my feelings about him, a father, a friend, a prophet, and about the meaning of his life and death: I add it to you as an archive, it is in italian…I was thinking that your surname is “italian”, isn’it? Maybe you have Italian roots, and you can read it, otherwise you can use the “google translator” in order to understand it.
Or maybe some day I will translate it in english and I will send it to you again.
One month ago I was in Taizé again, after 2 years since the last time, and I had a fantastic time, singing, praying, meditating and walking in the countryside, a big gift.

Thank you Mike both for the suggests about aphorisms and about Daniel Ingram, it is a gift from you that I appreciate very much.
In june, my family and I will move to Ensenada (Baja California, MX), after 12 years in Italy we feel there is a sort of “call” for us there.
This means that we will not be very far from each other: spirituality and social work are my biggest interests, this is for sure something that we have in common. Maybe one day, maybe soon, we can meet and share our paths and lives.
Meanwhile I really hope we find some time to stay in touch through the web.
I am also in facebook and in skype: you see all my addresses below.
I am always been fascinated by the Zen tradition and, in the past, I followed an italian catholic priest who is also a Zen Master, and is prior in a community, in Milan, in which he tries to experience the dialogue among the two practices.
Beyond that, I follow Ken Wilber’s job and the “Integral Institute” activities, where Zen Master Gempo Roshi is doing a lot of teachings.
And, of course, from now on, I will also follow your activities!!!

It is all for now, thanks again, Mike.
Let’s keep in touch. Many greetings to your wife.
Ciao,
Stefano.

I cam across your blog site, Stefano. Quite interesting.

Have you heard of The Infinite Way message or teaching by Joel S. Goldsmith? You might want to check it out if you haven’t. It is contemporary mysticism at its PUREST.
